Wright submitted her resignation letter to Colin Powell on March 19, 2003, the day before the U.S. invasion of Iraq. In her resignation letter, Wright listed four reasons she could no longer work for the U.S. government under the Bush administration:
* The decision to invade Iraq without the blessing of the U.N. Security Council.
* The “lack of effort” in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
* The “lack of policy” in regard to North Korea.
* The curtailment of civil liberties within the United States.
She was one of three State Department officials to retire from service in protest in the month prior to the invasion of Iraq. She has been tireless in her work for peace ever since.

Sustainability Perspectives Of Salmon Nation Indigenous Leaders. PSU, Smith Memorial Student Union room 238, 1:00pm-3:00pm, with David E. Hall, Ph.D. Candidate, PSU. For more info contact Marion Sharp at sharpml@pdx.edu. Extensive research suggests that the collective behavior of humanity is on an unsustainable path. Transformation of today’s dominant cultural forms is needed. Motivated by this understanding, a series of interviews were conducted on the subject of sustainability with contemporary Native leaders from within the bioregion defined by the Pacific Salmon runs of North America (see nativeperspectives.net). After outlining the overall project, some results will be shared, including samples of audio and video content.
