Shell No!

Updated on Thursday · Taken at St John's Bridge....Cathedral Park
What an awe-inspiring, daring and utterly breath-taking direct action by Greenpeace activists at the St. John's bridge in Portland, OR. 13 courageous and determined GP activists rappelled from the bridge, and were suspended for over 40 hours in their attempt to stop or delay the Fennica, an ice-breaker owned by Shell Corp., bound for the Artic to be used for oil-drilling. They were supported by the "kayaktivists" who bravely tried to block the Fennica from sailing past the bridge, but were overwhelmed by the coast guard in their motorboats. We will always remember the beautiful image of this remarkable direct action of these activists hanging from the bridge, with their colored flags flying in the wind.

Letter Carriers - Portland Rising March - photo by Bette Lee
I'm sharing a link to this video about global poverty, which also includes the "Dream Act" and dreamers taking action. Thought, creative, humorous, provocative, it asks "Will Hope end poverty?" It's an animation of wonderful drawings. One of my photos of the Mayday civil disobedience action by the dreamers was used in this video---towards the end, you can see it in a nanosecond. I believe Dulce and Leon were 2 of the 4 in my photo who were arrested that day.

BREAKING NEWS AT THE ALLIANCE:
SYSTEM GRAVELY BROKEN:
RESPONSES TO CHASSE DISCIPLINE REVERSAL

The two officers who had been disciplined in the brutal beating death of James Chasse, Jr. were ordered to have their records expunged and back payments made for the 80 hours each was suspended.
As long as we continue without police accountability in Portland,
avoidable killings of innocent people will continue.
